Synchronised musical riding is a seperate discipline in equestrian sport. Precision, timing and being able to ride as a team are of utmost importance. It’s history dates back to the middle ages, where during knight’s tournaments beautifully dressed up contestants performed magnificant acts on horseback.
A team consists of 12 or 16 riders on horses or ponys, who perform certain basic dressage figures, in an orderly row, like two riders side by side next to one another. The entire equestrian routine is performed to music. The choreography is arranged by the team, and for the team. It looks like a show, but it is so much more than that. All figures are executed very precisely and are ridden in style. The riders all look the same and wear the same gear, which makes for a great effect, making the team look like one entity. The pace, the distance between horses/riders and the fine-tuning determine the level. Funnily, the endresult does not depend on the level of a single horse/pony or rider ; the team as a whole determines the endresult.
